GIVING BACK AT THE SHOBE FINANCIAL GROUP
The Shobe Financial Group deeply cares about contributing to the Baton Rouge community. In an effort to support the well-being of the community’s smaller inhabitants, we held two information sessions spotlighting the development of Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.
Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital
Each information session was held in our office with the purpose of providing information about the long-awaited construction of the new hospital facility, dedicated to caring for our youth. Several employees of The Shobe Financial Group have been personally touched by the existing program and are excited about the expanded facilities.
For years now, Our Lady of the Lake has looked after our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the tight constraints of the third floor of the Regional Medical Center. Operating in a general hospital setting with limited space and resources makes it difficult. However, they have served people from almost every parish in Louisiana, plus 41 other states—over 90,000 children in the last year have been cared for in this setting!
Children—whose veins are as narrow as dental floss, and whose heart beats twice as fast as ours—must be
treated with special care. All of the diagnostic equipment —from blood pressure cuffs to radiology equipment—must accommodate the tiniest of patients. The plans for the new facility include:
- Special patient rooms to host the pediatric patient, including a desk to allow for study time or games, and a seating area to allow for the family and visitors
- A Louisiana-themed floor plan to help visitors navigate the facility – and to educate and entertain
- A resource center manned by the Junior League to assist visitors who may not be familiar with the facility, their care or even the city to find what they need
- Dedicated office facilities for the pediatric physicians and specialists. While Baton Rouge has many specialists providing key areas of care, they are working to attract new specialists to this impressive facility
For so many reasons, the value of a pediatric hospital—equipped with an abundance of specialized supplies and diverse medical specialists, is wonderful for our community, as well as for the children and families who currently come to the third floor of Our Lady of the Lake.
With the construction of the new hospital, the number of children able to receive help will only expand. They hope to break ground in the Spring of 2016, and expect the build to take between 2 and 3 years. On page 2 you will find Hospital Highlights provided by Our Lady of the Lake.
