Shobe History

In 1983, after developing a desire to help individuals reach their financial goals, Edward Shobe started Shobe and Associates, Inc. to provide fee based comprehensive planning services. As one of the oldest independent registered advisory firms in the area, you can say the company rose from humble beginnings, originally starting out of a spare bedroom in his Baton Rouge home. The company has evolved over the years, serving clients throughout the country- but the founding principles on which we were established remain unchanged- honesty, integrity and helping others pursue life goals.

Since the early 80’s a standard was set to stay one step ahead and provide only the best, with Ed driving to the airport himself to pick up the very first personal computer in the Baton Rouge area. We’ve primarily built our business not by running ads or promotions, but by what we consider to be the greatest compliment- referrals. One of our philosophies is that by taking care of our clients, they will in turn take care of us. In fact, our founding principle was built on taking care of people- from clients to our team- it’s the foundation of what we do.

Ed’s vision was to not only help individuals build their financial legacies but give rising financial professionals an opportunity to grow; acting as a mentor and helping newcomers with the attainment of credentials. He wanted to educate his team of advisors and those not so familiar with finance. Our commitment to education also lies at the heart of our business.

In 1986, Exxon approached Ed and former business partner to educate employees on financial concepts. Due to the success, a new company was born – The EDSA Group, a leader in financial education programs used by countless businesses and universities across the country.

Both businesses continued to grow and in 1998 construction began on what would become the official headquarters on YMCA Plaza Drive. It was around this time that Ed’s daughter, Susan Shobe Windham (Vice President), and husband, Jason Windham (President), joined the business; Susan working primarily with The EDSA Group and Jason with Shobe Financial. However, even without family ties you can consider yourself family.

We understand that everyone is unique. To better suit each client, we assign a team of planners with strengths in the areas most important to those particular needs and goals. This approach allows us to service our clients more effectively.

We are currently a firm made up of 8 CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals whose combined experience exceeds over 100 years. Our planners often receive new credentials, licenses and regularly attend conferences and workshops to stay up to date on the industry. They, along with our vital support staff, are all dedicated to building and maintaining long-term relationships with each and every client.

We want only the best for those that come to us, and we look at all aspects of your life to help you reach your financial goals. Building each other up as a team and supporting every client’s best interests as if they were our own is a part of our culture. It’s been this way since 1983 and will remain the same for years to come.
